Working - Praying - Living
What We Do
The Gateway Vincentian Volunteers program is a yearlong service ministry (August through June) for young adults. Volunteers live in community in the city of St. Louis and work with the poor in organizations with a specific Vincentian connection—working with a Vincentian priest or brother, a Daughter of Charity, or another person grounded in the spirit of St. Vincent DePaul. A unique aspect of the Gateway Vincentian Volunteers program is that volunteers live not only in community with one another but also with Vincentian priests and brothers, who occupy the same apartment building.
Praying*"All other actions of the day receive their true value from prayer.” Vincent DePaul
The GVV staff, along with a variety of Vincentians and other individuals, will provide weekly reflection and discussion sessions followed by the celebration of the Eucharist. These sessions will focus on working, praying, and living in the spirit of Vincent; issues of social/economic justice; spiritual growth and development; and building a deeper understanding and appreciation of St. Vincent’s love for the poor. Staff will also provide an orientation program, three retreats during the year, and connect you to individuals who are available for spiritual direction. As a Gateway Vincentian Volunteer, you will receive support and encouragement from staff, Vincentian priests and brothers in the St. Louis area, and from two Vincentian parishes that are nearby—St. Francis de Sales Parish and St. Vincent DePaul Parish. You will be welcomed by these communities and invited to become part of either parish. * All religious activity is voluntary. Home - What
